June 28, 2017 (Fremont, OH) – Terra State Community College broke ground today on the new student housing complex “The Landings at Terra Village.” The residence hall will be located just east of State Route 53 on the Terra State campus.
Terra State President Dr. Jerome Webster welcomed those in attendance while Terra State Board of Trustees Chair Matt Montowski introduced guest speakers, Sandy Berlekamp, President, Terra Village Holdings and Jim Schmidt, President, University Housing Solutions and Melinda Smith, President of the Terra State Student Government. In her comments, Smith said, “I truly believe this residence hall will make a deep impact on the lives of students who live there. If this residence hall was available to me as a student when I first started my education, I would have been thrilled to live and study in it.”
Lu Cooke, Regional Liaison for Northwest Ohio for the Office of Governor also delivered a proclamation on behalf of Governor John Kasich.
The 200-bed residence hall will include four room options for students – 1-bed studio, 2-bed single, 2-bed double and 4-bed. Fifty-seven 1-bed studio rooms will make up the majority of units. Each unit will have its own living, kitchen and bathroom areas. The variety of room offerings will allow different price points to fit the needs of the students. In addition to the residential offerings, there will be a 5,000 square foot retail component that can be used for businesses such as a bookstore, bank or café.
Outside, students will be able to take advantage of an outdoor activity. Benches will be available that can serve as a quiet study area. Outdoor grills will enhance outside activities, along with an outdoor television and other games. The area will serve as an exceptional social area, especially in the fall and spring.
In addition to living and recreation areas, The Landings will also serve the community. A branch of the Fremont Federal Credit Union will be housed in retail space, along with the College’s bookstore. A coffee house/bakeshop and convenience mart will operate by Terra State’s employees and students from the Hospitality Management program will operate a coffee house/bakeshop and convenience mart, as well.
