Terra State Community College served as host for three events in conjunction with Ohio Governor John Kasich’s State of the State address. The events, held April 3rd and 4th, featured two members of the Governor’s cabinet – Ohio Department of High Education (ODHE) Chancellor John Carey and Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria.
On April 3, the event started with an informal lunch regarding Talent Pipeline Initiatives. Beth Hannam, Manager, Business and Industry Training, gave a presentation on “Filling the Talent Pipeline.” The audience included Terra State President Jerome Webster, Ohio Senator Randy Gardner and members of the Terra State Board of Trustees, along with representatives of area economic development groups.
Also on the 3rd, a town hall discussion on the College Credit Plus (CCP) initiative was held. The event featured students who are in the program. They told about their experiences in CCP, as well as, constructive advice on improving the program.
The events wrapped up on April 4th with another town hall meeting. This particular event focused on adult learner programs. Representatives from Century Die Company, Fostoria Learning Center, WSOS, the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Service and the Vanguard ABLE program informed the audience about what their organization is doing to meet the needs of adults. Partnerships, collaborations, training and other programs were detailed.
